I am a UK-based American who loves food, homes, and my dog, Fenway.
I have been cooking in earnest since I moved to the UK in 2013 and, since then, I’ve been doing my best to expand my repertoire. My go-to meal is a roast chicken with roast potatoes, sprouts, kale, and Yorkshire puddings (I know technically Yorks go with beef but they’re really yummy so dont @ me) but there are very few foods I don’t like. In fact, the only food I won’t eat is a raw tomato. I have tried them time and again and they just taste like poison to me. Cooked tomatoes are fine but raw ones are a hard no from me.
One of the things I love about living here is the history and how it can be seen in the architecture. There are some beautiful, historic houses where I live and my husband loves to point out homes that are older than America as a nation. I’m a big snoop so love walking around different neighborhoods, checking out the different houses and pretending I’m not trying to peer through the windows to get a better look.
Over the last few years, I have been working on curating interiors that spark joy. My home is comfortable and inviting- or it would be if we weren’t in a pandemic and people could be invited in- with unique pieces, juxtaposing old and new, and I love finding things second-hand. My office is one of my favorite rooms in the house- we found old hardwood flooring under the carpet, which is always a great surprise, and there’s ample space for a large bookshelf (bought second-hand of course), the desk on which my grandmother wrote her Harvard thesis and that is now seeing me through a pandemic, a day bed that Fenway has claimed as his work-from-home spot, and some artwork that is very dear to me.
